History of United Truck Driving School

Our Mission

Our mission is to train individuals to become quality drivers in the transportation industry. We accomplish this goal through classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel training. Students receive practical driving experience by learning maneuvers, inspection techniques and how to properly use commercial vehicle equipment. Our CDL training instructors have years of combined truck driving experience to help students, just like you, learn the skills required to become a licensed truck driver!

“We are so fortunate to be able to help people. I want to see our students succeed. My staff wants them to succeed. We are dedicated to our students because we know what we are doing helps people’s livelihood.”

– Cheryl Hanley, Owner

Our History

United Truck Driving School has been training the nation’s truck drivers since 1978. With two Southern California locations, our training includes all classes and combination of vehicles. In 1997, our school was acquired by the Hanley family and the San Diego campus was relocated. Our truck driving school was also incorporated in 1997, as United Truck & Car Driving School, Inc. within the state of California. Later, in 1998, our Riverside campus was relocated.

In 2003, United was accredited by the Accrediting Commissions of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology, currently identified as ACCSC. Our school also qualified and was granted membership in the Commercial Vehicle Training Association (CVTA) in the same year. United Truck Driving School is proud to be licensed by the Bureau of Private Post-Secondary Education in the State of California. Additionally, we are accredited by the Council on Occupational Education (COE). United Truck Driving School is approved to train both active duty and retired military personnel using a variety of programs funded by the VA. Our programs offered are technical education programs, that lead students to employment within the transportation industry. New classes start every two weeks and run on a continuous basis year-round. Programs are based on the number of hours completed. United’s most popular format is the 40-hour per week full-time program. We recently added a night and weekend class at our San Diego campus to accommodate other schedules.

Student training begins in a classroom setting where they learn the basics of equipment, rules of the road, state and federal regulations, as well as vehicle inspection training. Instruction in the classroom is to help prepare students for the exams and begin understanding the required knowledge needed to become a commercial licensed driver. Students will then be asked to complete their commercial driver permit test. This is a series of written exams conducted by the California Department of Motor Vehicles.

The classroom settings leads to hands-on training where students apply their knowledge from the classroom to the vehicle. The educational learning comes in a step-by-step process to help all students see the details and essential skills that needed to become a commercial driver.

United Truck Driving School’s goal with every student is to provide top-notch training in a format that makes it possible to earn a commercial driver’s license and enter the workforce as a professional truck or bus driver in as little as 3 weeks. Successfully completing our program, students will receive a diploma upon graduation.

There has never been a better time to begin your truck driving career! Major carriers are actively seeking out our graduates for hire!
