CDL Refresher Course

30-Hour Skills Course for Current CDL Holders

United Truck Driving School’s CDL Refresher Course is a 30-hour skills course. It’s for drivers who already hold a valid, current Class A or Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL). It is not an entry-level program.

This course is not the right fit for someone who does not yet hold a CDL. Drivers who need their first license should look at Class A CDL Training, Class B + Passenger CDL Training, or CDL-A + Passenger Training instead.

What the Course Covers

The Refresher course is not entry-level; it. Includes advanced classroom and practical studies. Because the course is only 30 hours, much of it happens behind the wheel. Classroom time centers on safety, the importance of pre and post-trips and other comprehensive driving topics.

Behind-the-wheel training happens in United’s yard and on local roads. An instructor observes the driver’s current habits and works on specific areas that need attention. Common focus areas include:

• Backing – basic and advanced
• Tight space management
• Coupling and uncoupling
• Pre-trip inspection
• Turns, lane position, and defensive driving
• Safe lane changes, smooth starts and stops

Accreditation and Licensing

United Truck Driving School has trained drivers in Southern California since 1978 at its San Diego and Riverside, California campuses. United is licensed by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE). It’s also accredited by the Council on Occupational Education (COE), and it’s a member of the Commercial Vehicle Training Association (CVTA).

Yes. The refresher course is only for drivers who already hold a valid, current Class A or Class B CDL. They must also have a valid DOT physical and will be required to pass a DOT drug test.
