Living the life of a truck driver can be all consuming. This lifestyle can lead to health problems and a lack of self-care. Studies have shown that truck drivers typically have more health problems than those in other careers. This can be one of the greatest challenges to being a truck driver. Truck drivers aren’t able to get as much exercise as others and, also work in small spaces that expose them to hazardous diesel fumes.

Reduce the amount of junk food eaten – Foods high in fat and empty calories can contribute to arteries becoming clogged and other health problems. There are healthy alternatives to junk food that truck drivers can find at any rest stop. Some examples are; nuts, jerky, whole grain crackers, and fruits.

Get enough sleep – We all know that doctors and health professionals recommend 8 hours of sleep each night.  This advice is true for truck drivers as well. Sleep rejuvenates the body and keeps the mind at it’s best.

Maintain a healthy weight – Maintaining a healthy weight can lower the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and certain types of cancer.

Find time to relax – It is important that even when on the road to do something that you like. Make time to incorporate some of your hobbies into the downtime that you have. Take vacation when allowed to spend time with family and friends.
